Ryuta Kawashima is an famed neuroscientist and tenured professor born in Chiba City, Japan. His book Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain inspired the Nintendo DS title Brain Age. Brain Age centers around training one’s braining to increase brain power, improve and retain memory, and reduce mental aging effects.

In Smash Bros., Dr. Kawashima’s polygonal face (which also appears in Brain Age) floats in the background, tossing number bubbles about the stage. If the numbers collide and equal 10, they will cause a huge explosion. Fighters can attack the number bubbles to alter their direction.
